Meet Chelsea Call

MA, LPCC, ATR

My name is Chelsea and my pronouns are she/her/they/them. I am an artist, art therapist, and interspecies ally who resides in O’ghe P’oghe, on Tewa land (Santa Fe, New Mexico). My work is greatly informed by my connection to my ancestors, queer identity, and connection to more-than-human kin.

With a background in art, somatics, psychology, herbalism, and climate justice, I hold space for change. I believe in each persons innate ability to heal. Through integrative practices I draw upon a variety of tools to remind you, and your body, of your innate potentiality to return to a state of health.

I’m passionate about supporting other artists, queer folks, and those interested in navigating personal healing in a time of collective crisis. I am devoted to envisioning new, just futures through unconventional practices which stretch beyond traditional, outdated paradigms. I am fascinated by neuroplasticity, our brain’s ability to form and reorganize synaptic connections in response to new learning and/or experiences.

My offerings are a reflection of my core values: curiosity, collaboration, humor, integrity, transparency, and unconditional positive regard. I am humbled by every human who courageously says ‘YES’ to working with me for it is a powerful action to ask for witnessing, one that can radically transform your life.

biography

I began my professional path towards becoming a therapist through my own healing journey, which I view as a lifelong commitment. Growing up in a conservative, Christain community in St. Louis, Missouri I existed on the fringes as “a black sheep”, never fully belonging. My art practice served as a safe space for exploring my ever-evolving identity outside of the church, providing solace from cultural and familial trauma. As a curious teen yearning to create meaning from experience I discovered art therapy and felt an immediate kinship; a marriage between two of my primary passions - art and psychology. This was the inception of my devotional efforts to become the type of therapist I desperately needed, and did not have, as a young person.

My path of self-exploration has led me to various places of study across the globe, continuously returning to the spine of the Rocky Mountains. Motivated to uncover the harm caused by the internalized patriarchal dogma of my religious upbringing, my healing journey has led me to study yoga and later somatic psychology. Deeply inspired by the ecology of the Southwest, my creative practice has flourished from a fascination between the intersections of people and the more-than-human. After confronting the climate crisis and experiencing existential despair, I became a climate justice advocate. As a climate-aware psychotherapist, I acknowledge the current climate crisis and the need for shifts in mental health consideration to address and change systemic harm.

As a white bodied, cisgender woman I acknowledge my privilege and actively work towards dismantling oppression within myself and my work. I am dedicated to this work as a lifelong practice of liberation, to support myself and others.

lineage

Consent and transparency are integral to my trauma-informed praxis. I hold deep gratitude to all my teachers and mentors, acknowledging and holding them in their human-ness. I honor all of my life experiences, including those with my clients, as primary teachers.
